Ramisa Zara Rouf is a visual artist and design consultant based in New York City and Dhaka. She is currently in her final year of the BFA Fashion Design program at Parsons School of Design, working on her senior thesis titled DENIM SHENIM.
Having roots in Bangladesh, the second largest RMG manufacturing hub in the world, while also having direct links to the sector, she has realized that much can be done, apart from just designing and producing clothes, to help reduce the waste that is produced during these processes. That’s how DENIM SHENIM came to be. Centering around the prospect of connecting local young designers and artists with the international world of fashion and at the same time finding ways to lower carbon emissions and rethinking extractive design practices.
Ramisa is now focusing on creating and streamlining a new dimension for this sector. It will not only be beneficial for the environment but also encourage future Bangladeshi designers, manufacturers, and retailers to follow a new trend for sustainability.
